The French Wardrobe

My roommate Lauren recently told me about the Five Piece French Wardrobe, and I finally have a day off today so I decided to look it up. I actually found a great Reddit thread describing the whole process in detail with some helpful tips, but the gist of it is to only buy five articles of clothing a season (or 10 items a year). The idea is if you limit yourself, you will be much more considerate in what you buy and hopefully invest in pieces that will last you longer.

One suggestion on the Reddit thread was to pick a celebrity whose style you like and figure out what it is you would like to emulate. I don't know any celebrities with a style I absolutely crave, but I do have a Pinterest board I have been dutifully pinning on for the last three years. I scrolled through it looking for trends in what I was pinning and discovered I definitely have two very distinct looks between Winter and Summer. I broke both wardrobes down into what I feel was most prevalent:

I went through and crossed out things I already own, and I think I'm actually doing pretty well. I'm not sure if I will be able to even afford five pieces a season because I am trying to save up for a trip to London this summer, but this was really helpful for me to see what I actually need to be happy with my wardrobe (I'm currently not at the moment) and pick out pieces I know will wear for a good while. I'll keep you updated on what I end up buying!
